David Castleman has extensive litigation experience in federal and state courts and before arbitrators regarding a variety of subjects, including construction law, non-competition and non-solicitation agreements, employment agreements, employment discrimination and whistleblower claims, insurance coverage actions, physician recruitment agreements, franchise law and distribution agreements, church property disputes, premises liability, settlement agreements, commercial contracts, and legal malpractice defense. The depth and breadth of Mr. Castleman’s experience enables him to provide high quality legal analysis and advice to clients and assist them in resolving litigated and non-litigated disputes. Mr. Castleman has often obtained favorable decisions from courts without the need for a trial. In many cases, he has obtained summary judgment or dismissal in his clients’ favor, including recent court decisions in a multi-million dollar construction lawsuit against a public school district and in an employment discrimination lawsuit against a mass public transit company. Mr. Castleman also has successfully briefed and argued numerous appeals in the Missouri Court of Appeals and in the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Mr. Castleman’s non-litigation practice includes providing legal counseling to employers and business owners regarding employment decisions and employee policies. He also provides legal advice to school districts on various topics, including construction contracts, the Sunshine Law and the Teacher Tenure Act.
Mr. Castleman has served as President of the St. Louis Regional Alumni Council of the Valparaiso University School of Law and President and Vice-President of a church congregation.
He has also coached basketball, soccer and volleyball for the Catholic Youth Council of St. Louis and participates in volunteer programs through numerous non-profit organizations including St. Louis University, Webster University, Concordia-Kirkwood Lutheran Church and Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
